From 50 to 900 Subscribers & Creating a Win-Win Speaker Experience with Jas Maylin

Jas went from having 0 industry connections to building incredible relationships, grew her list from 50-900, and brought in 5-figures in revenue!

Running a business can be tough when you feel like no one knows who you are. And when you're just getting started or have a small audience, it can feel like an uphill battle to grow your audience and gain the visibility that you know you need to reach your goals.

I've talked many times on this podcast about the power of virtual summits to replace slow-growth strategies and skyrocket your visibility and audience, but I often hear concerns from people who are starting small. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the question "Why would speakers agree to speak at my summit if I'm just starting out?" or "I think I need to grow my audience more before I'm ready to host a summit."

To that I say, when your summit is positioned well, and you're intentional and strategic with your pitches, your speakers see it as an opportunity that they're excited to be a part of. And the idea that you need to grow your audience before hosting a summit is so backwards! A summit is what grows your audience. Not only does it help you speed up your growth, but it also brings so many new connections which makes it a whole lot more enjoyable.

In this episode, you'll hear from my guest Jas Maylin about how she hosted a summit starting with zero industry connection and an email list of only 50 subscribers, and how it led to building incredible relationships with her speakers, growing her list to 900, and bringing in 5-figures in revenue through her first virtual summit!

Episode at a glance:

[1:26] We start with an intro to Jas's work and summit. She's a former psychotherapist who now coaches clients using human design and EFT tapping, and she's seen through her work that there are so many beliefs that we internalize that hold us back. We become so used to abandoning ourselves and just being hard on ourselves, and her work helps people to change patterns in their lives that are holding them back and actually sustaining the change.

I've worked with extremely successful people, making $300,000 a year and all this stuff, and they still struggle with self worth, attachment issues, relationship issues, money issues, etc. And I do what I do because I want people to find that inner fulfillment and being happy with who they are and just enjoying the ride of life.

[3:44] Jas isn't immune to these beliefs that she helps her clients with, and she shared about her feelings of pressure and discomfort around being seen that she had to work through before she decided to host a virtual summit. She wanted the connection and collaboration that would come from hosting a summit, she admired the human design experts, and she wanted to put herself out there and be seen as one of the experts in her field, too. Jas goes on to break down the impact and revenue her summit had on her business.

My favorite part was actually sharing it with my speakers. I came from a place of not having a lot of people to send my emails to. My book's not out on shelves yet. I don' have a name for myself. So we all (my speakers and I) brought in that money and it felt so good to share that affiliate commission with them.

[10:45] In the field of human design, Jas loves learning teachers who have integrity, really care about people, and frame their teachings in a positive way that is focused so that everybody can learn human design in a language that is loving and compassionate. She talks about how she decided to interview all the speakers at her summit so she could share their stories and attendees could get to know them.

Not only did I get to connect with speakers on a deeper level, but I got to show people who they were and why I love learning from them. I got to actually make friends with my speakers.

[19:35] Jas wraps up by sharing how she felt like a "nobody" before hosting her summit, and dealt with all the self-doubt that so many summit hosts struggle with. It wasn't really until she started to believe in herself that she felt like she could take this jump.

I just want people to believe in themselves when they're doing something new, something big. Find things that excite you and go from that energy. Just know that there's going to be ups and downs all the time.
